WISDOM
Wisdom according to the English Dictionary means experience and knowledge shown in making decisions and judgments. In our present day and with the high spate of technology, one is prone to believe that knowledge and divine wisdom comes or can be acquired through education or with age. This wisdom is greatly sought among the human race but the crowning irony of it is not everyone knows how to come by it. It has to be sought diligently of Yahweh through whom every good gift comes.
Like King Solomon, who was bequeathed the crown in his youth, felt it wasn’t in efficient hands and asked Yahweh for wisdom, the wisdom of Yahweh distinct. James spoke correctly in his epistle, James 3:17: “But the wisdom from above is first pure, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits without partiality and hypocrisy.” These qualities completely contrast the common earthly wisdom which is sensual, full of pride and selfish.
Our ever example, Yahshua the Messiah, despite his youth illustrates divine wisdom during his discussion and sermons in the temple. “Now so it was that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.” (Luke 2:46-47). Yahshua increased in wisdom (Luke 2:52). With Yahshua, wisdom was knowledge of his Father in action.
Wisdom is invaluable, it’s more precious than rubies (Proverbs 3:15). It is a quality or rather gift which has to be desired, earned and cherished. Have we sought to acquire this great gift? If we really seek this divine wisdom, how can we get it? The Almighty Yahweh in his words laments that his people die for lack of wisdom. Also, Yahshua advises that we be as wise as the serpent. He gave many of his teachings in parables. This is to say that wisdom is a vital weapon to understanding Yahshua and his words. One of such precious parables is that concerning the wise man who built his house on the rock. Another is about the wise five virgins who had extra oil for their lamps (Matthew 25:1-5).
Brethren, I personally believe Yahweh and his word which is represented by the Scriptures. You and I can get wisdom from Yahweh who freely gives it to those who desire it. In Proverbs 1:20-25, wisdom calls aloud in the streets. Read Proverbs 2:2-5 as how to obtain it. The question remains, are you willing to walk according to the dictates and statutes of Yahweh, to fear him and keep all his commandments? He will then store up wisdom for us (Psalms 19:7).
We are created in Yahweh’s image. “By wisdom Yahweh founded the earth, ordered the seasons, established the heavens, and arranged the stars to his pleasing.” (Proverbs 3:19). Since we are created in his image, he surely has made a great provision for his divine wisdom in us. With such wisdom, we are happy and content in life. Read Proverbs 3:13-18 for the benefits of wisdom. Also, with divine wisdom we are saved from the way of the evil, from men who are perverse and from the wrath of Yahweh (Proverbs 2:10-15). With wisdom, we are prepared for whatever lies in the future. The wise man built his house on the rock which we all know means Yahshua – he obeyed the words of Yahshua.
Let us also beware of the wisdom of this age. I have observed that most people prefer this worldly wisdom to Yahweh’s divine wisdom. Well, we all want to flow with the dictates of this world or rather, the environment in which we find ourselves… Important as that may seem, Paul in his epistle to the saints in Corinth writes: “For it is written I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age?” (See 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 and 2:1-16). Only by becoming fools of this age can we become wise before Yahweh.
The wisdom of this age is foolishness with Yahweh. He has chosen the foolish, base things of this age to confound the wise. Read 1 Corinthians 1:26. The wisdom of Yahweh has been ordained before the ages, yet it is hidden from the mighty and the rulers of this age. It has been and is only being revealed through his spirit to them who are ready to be fools of this age. Love Yahweh and do his will. Only when the spirit of Yahweh gives such revelation and wisdom can we understand the will and teachings of Yahshua. Only then can we listen to him and do as he instructs us. Only then can we understand that his commandments, Sabbaths, statutes and feast days are binding and cannot be changed. Just as Yahshua told his disciples, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Yahweh…” (Matthew 13:10-12).
Brethren, it is the wish of most people to be wise and many go in pursuit of it in schools while many others resort to elders, but Yahweh Elohim is the giver of wisdom. If we come to him in prayer, believing and trusting, he is ever able to supply our needs according to his riches in Yahshua the Messiah. Hallelu Yah.
